100 Sight Words

Today, Lexi passed off her 100 sight words at school. She has now joined the Accelerated Reading (AR) program. That means she gets to bring designated books home. She will read the books twice and then go back to school to take computer tests to judge her comprehension.

Tex Ren Fest 2011

We went to the Texas Renaissance Festival today. It is one of my favorite things to do here in the Fall. We thought the kids' Granddad would enjoy it too. Lexi's favorite thing of the day was having so many people call her a princess.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The kids' granddad & dad hung out at the house while we cooked a few dishes including sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie. Actually, Lexi insisted on making the pumpkin pie. It was very tasty. We took the food over to our friends' house (the Feils) for a great dinner. We always have a good time with them.

Granddad in Town

Lexi & Jordan's Granddad came to town last night. He is staying with their dad of course. Today, we all went to the mall, the park, and then back to our place for dinner and dessert. I made cheese ravioli topped with olive oil and sautéed butternut squash. After, we each made our own ice cream snowmen.

Fleece PJ Pants

Last week, I saw a tutorial on the internet that explained how to make pajama pants for kids. It looked really easy, so I decided to check out fabric. Coincidentally, they just happened to be advertising fleece fest. The kids and I went in to discover that all fleece was 60% off. I let them pick out what they wanted. They both went with a cowboy theme. I whipped up the pants in no time. Here they are modeling them last night when the temps dipped a little.

Kindergarten Field Trip

Lexi had her first field trip today. The entire Kindergarten from her school went to Dewberry Farms. I wish I could have been a chaperone, but they don’t allow younger siblings to go and the leave time and return time interfered with the drop-off and pick-up at Jordan’s school.

That morning, I sent an e-mail to my mom’s friend, Pam, who is doing a seasonal job there. She told me she would look for Lexi. Lexi recognized her from pictures on facebook. She loved meeting her. I was happy that Pam posted the above picture of the two of them.

Report Card 2nd Six Weeks

I had a parent-teacher conference with Lexi's teacher last week. On Friday, she brought home her report card for the second six weeks. As you can see, she is doing very well. During the conference, her teacher told me that she is reading like a mid-year first grader. By the end of the year, she will be reading like a second grader. He also told me that she gets along well with everyone and seems to enjoy school. The only thing he wants her to work on is talking and socializing a little less - no surprise!

Miss Lou

Before we left for California, one of my friends gave Lexi the nickname, Miss Lou. He decided that it would fit a more Cali version of Lexi. She isn't fond of the name, but for some reason this picture just brought that to mind.

Twins' Birthday Party

Today, our friends that are twins had their 6th birthday party at a bowling/family/fun place. Lexi and Jordan haven't been bowling very much (other than our wii), so this was a real treat. Plus, we got to see our friends. Since school started, we haven't been able to do that very often. They go to an elementary school close to Lexi's.
