Meet of Champs 2016

Lexi made it into the Meet of Champs this year. She has had an incredible year. Only the fastest swimmers from each team are invited. For each age & gender group, they take the top 8 for freestyle and backstroke. They take the top 4 for the IM, breaststroke, and butterfly. They also have 1 team for the medley at the end. She is a 9 - 10 girl and was selected for the backstroke, IM, butterfly, and medley. 

Most of the kids that make it to the Meet of Champs are club swimmers, meaning that they swim year round. They have also been on swim team for more years than she has. I have been thrilled and amazed by her this year.

25 Yard Backstroke: fastest time of the season - 20.97. tonight - 21.29 (16th place)

100 Yard IM: fastest time of the season - 1:39.71. tonight - 1:45.27 (13th place)

25 Yard Butterfly: fastest time of the season - 20.66. tonight - 20.45 (14th place)

100 Yard Medley Relay: 1:22.13 (3rd place)

Swim Meet at Grand Lakes

Our last regular season meet was at Grand Lakes, which is quite close to our house. Their team was MUCH larger than ours. We have lots of friends from church and school that swim with that team. There were lots of people that we like cheering us on. Even though this was the hottest meet we've had all year, Lexi did better than ever. I think she was inspired by the cheers of our friends.

Right before the IM, Lexi ran over to me because her silver cap had split apart. Fortunately, I had a blue one to replace it. Unfortunately, the blue one isn't as easy to pick out in the crowd.

First Home Meet

We had our first home meet this evening. We raced against Cinco Ranch South West, which has several team members that go to church with us. 

This year, I volunteered to be the 9-10 girls ready bench mom, which is what I did last too. This is a tough job, but I get to watch Lexi and Jordan swim so it is worth it. Plus, I get to know all the girls in Lexi's group. 

One of girls is named Jane. I've known her family from church for a little over 7 years. Her dad was the ready bench volunteer over the 9-10 girls with me last year. I even know several of her aunts and uncles. Sadly, this January her dad, Mark, was diagnosed with stage 4 bile duct cancer. He is really putting up a valiant fight. Some friends started a Team Mark group. We bought these blue hand towels and take pictures to let him know we support him. I thought a swim team picture would be perfect. He hasn't been able to make it to any of the meets, so I've been cheering for Jane and taking pictures for them. Jane is the one holding the towel.

Jane and Lexi often swim together on the 100 yard Freestyle Relay. They got 1:17.54 tonight, which put them in 5th overall and 3rd for our team.

Lexi's 25 yard freestyle time was 20.26, which put her at 20th overall & 11th for our team.

Meet at Willow Fork Country Club

Our first meet of the season was tonight at Willow Fork Country Club. We won the meet. Here are Lexi's times:

Last Swim Meet

Tonight, we had our last swim meet. I am ready for the volunteering part to be over, but I must admit that I have thought this was a great experience. I especially loved how much my kids have improved. Lexi is shaping up to be quite a good swimmer. The coach even asked her to fill in for the last leg of the 14 year old relays. The team was slow, so she was the last one in the water, but she swam her heart out.
