Matching Hair

This morning, Lucy's dad dropped her off to spend a little time with Lexi before Lexi's dad picked her up for the day. Lucy saw me finishing up Lexi's french braids and wanted matching hair. It definitely isn't as easy to do two french braids on a girl with much thinner hair, but she was pleased.

Texas Bluebonnets

The official Texas state flower is the bluebonnet. This wild flower can be found along the highways and anywhere that is seeded. They bloom in the Spring for about a 3 week period. During that short window of time, lots of Texans take the opportunity to get pictures of their family or kids surrounded by these flowers. I must admit that I have never gone out and done it before, but I have always wanted to. This year, I definitely didn’t want to miss the opportunity.

I have always heard that the best place to see them in near Brenham, which is about a 50 minute drive. I planned to take the kids and go after church today. However, during the week, a friend told me that she heard that there are lots of them in a state park about 20 minutes west of our town. As suggested, I decided to go to the Stephen F. Austin State Park. The park actually only had a few bluebonnets at the entrance, but we were not disappointed. We walked on a trail and had lots of fun. I think it would be a great place to go camping. When we finished, we drove out of the park and found plenty of great places for bluebonnet photo opportunities. What a great day!

Gymnastics Party

Lexi’s friend, Lauren, had her 6th birthday at a gymnastics place. Lauren is a friend from church so there were quite a few church friends at the party. Lauren is also best friends with a little girl in her kindergarten class that just happens to be the daughter of one of my best friends from high school. Lexi knows her and her twin well. I didn't end up taking a lot of pictures, because my friend's mom was there (she is watching the twins this week) and we got to catch up. I had a good time and the kids had a good time. Actually, the kids had such a good time that they want to take gymnastics now.

St Patrick's 2012

Lexi and Jordan spent last night and today with their dad. I told her that the neat thing about spending this holiday with her dad was that I was sure he would forget to wear green. She would be able to pinch him a lot. She wasn't so convinced it would work. I let her know that I was going to pack her bag with green pjs, a swimsuit that had green on it and her St Patty's shirt. I told her when she woke up in the morning, she could start pinching him if he didn't have green on. She was quite excited to carry out the little plan and managed to keep it a secret. According to her, it worked just as planned.

They had a fun day and got to go swimming in his apartment pool. Her hair is messy, but not bad considering that I did it last night and she went swimming.

Science Camp

It is Spring Break this week and it has been pretty tough because I am swamped with work. However, we have had fun with friends, especially today. We were invited to Science Camp. Our friends planned and set it all up. We just showed up. Each of the moms was assigned to a science station. The kids were split up into groups. Lexi was part of the 5 & 6 year olds that also included Camden and Kara. They started off making gak (blue rubber). Next, they went outside to test objects floating. Last, they were in my station, which had 4 experiments. We tried to see if tap water was heavier or lighter than salt water. We put shiny pennies into vinegar. We put dirty pennies into lemon juice. We also worked on creating static by combing their hair and touching the comb to tissue paper.

When all the stations were done, the kids gathered around the island to make ice cream. We had a picnic outside and the kids tasted their ice cream. Our grand finale was at the park. It involved household explosives. We had baking powder and vinegar for one. The other one was Diet Coke and Menthos. They were quite interesting combinations.

Kung Fu Fighting

Lexi and Jordan wanted to play with the Wii today. At Christmas, one of our friends gave them a game called Just Dance Kids. There are kids dancing on the screen and Lexi is imitating them for points. I think it is fun to watch Lexi & Jordan, so I decided to make a video.

Children's Museum in Houston

A friend invited us to go to the Children’s Museum in Houston. He has an annual family pass, so we got to go for free. It is a fairly large museum with lots of fun activities.

Class Photo Day

Today, Lexi had her class photos. I decided to let her show her funky side. I even helped by doing a different hairstyle. I also went to the school to have lunch with her. She had a good day. I hope the picture turns out great.

Black & White Day

Lexi had black & white day at school. She got to pick out her own outfit. I don't really know the point of their dress-up days. I think the point is mainly to get kids excited to go to school. Strangely enough, it works - at least on Lexi.
