Fun Friends

School starts tomorrow. Lexi had a fun afternoon with Heather and Samone at Heather's house. Jordan was there too for a birthday party (Heather's brother, Justin).

Thanksgiving 2017

Thanksgiving at Grandma and Papa's house was amazing. The food was delicious and the kids got to help cook. Lexi's apple pie tasted like a regular one with sugar.

Pie Prep for Thanksgiving

We are spending the week at Grandma's for Thanksgiving. We also happen to be dog sitting - Tutti and Lucy, which is always something that Lexi likes.

Lexi helped Grandma make a sugar-free apple pie today. They used frozen concentrate instead of sugar. It looks delicious.

Chef Lexi

Around noon, I told the kids that I was going to take a quick shower and then I would make them lunch.  Apparently, Lexi decided that she couldn't wait.  She wanted pasta and she wanted it now.  When I came downstairs to get started, Lexi had a guilty look on her face.  I didn't say anything, but I walked into the kitchen and noticed something in our toaster oven.  As soon as I mentioned it, Jordan excitedly ran in to tell me all about what Lexi had done.

I was a little surprised.  Lexi has been taking a little more initiative in being independent.  Usually, that means getting snacks & fruit for her and Jordan.  She doesn't spend a lot of time with me in the kitchen.  Jordan is much more interested in food prep.  If she had, she would have noticed that I never heat anything in plastic not even in the microwave.  In fact, I rarely use the microwave so this idea of putting plastic into anything was not something she got from me.

Fortunately, it was easy to clean up & this was one of the disposable pieces.  I am always glad when my kids learn a lesson on something that didn't cost a lot or end up making a lot of extra work for me.

Mother's Day Surprise

Lexi and Jordan did their best to spoil me today.  Lexi got up and made breakfast in bed for me.  I had no idea she had it planned or could even pull it off.  She prepared a bowl of granola, made toast, and cut up an apple.  She put it all on a cutting board and brought it upstairs for me.  I just love surprises.  When Jordan saw her good example, he ran downstairs and made a piece of toast for me. They also gave me lots of cards and notes full of love.

I took a few pictures of the kids before heading to church.  I knew all of the kids at church would be singing.  That makes it a little more enjoyable for all of us.

Little Chef

Unlike Jordan, Lexi is usually not that interested in helping with dinner. She prefers coloring or doing some type of craft. This evening, she decided that cooking would be fun, probably because Jordan had announced that he wanted us to have pigs-in-a-blanket. Something in that sounded appealing to her, so I let her roll the pigs. She did a great job and quite enjoyed herself.

Valentines Cookies

A couple of weeks ago, my mom, sister and I saw a demonstration about cookie decorating. The fun would have ended there if my sister and I were left up to it. However, my mother was inspired. She decided to make the sugar cookies a few days ago. Yesterday, she made the icing and got the two of us to help her decorate. It was actually a lot easier than any of us imagined. Of course, I just had to make one or two specifically for my favorite little Valentines - Lexi and Jordan.

Snicker Doodles

Yesterday, Lexi put on her chef outfit that she got for her birthday last year and easily convinced Grandma Margie that they needed to bake something. Grandma decided that Snicker Doodle cookies would be fun. Lexi helped put everything in the bowl and mix it. Then, she rolled the cookie dough in the cinnamon/sugar mix.
