Katy Rodeo

 

Our favorite rodeo is this weekend. We like to go on Thursday when it is free for students. We were lucky enough to have several families that are our closest friends meet us to join in on the fun.

Katy Rodeo Time

The Katy Rodeo is the happening place to be this weekend. We went tonight because local kids get in free. We stopped at one of our favorite Texas BBQ places near the stadium for dinner. Lexi is a huge fan of creamed corn, but I'm not so she was excited to get some. Before entering, we walked around the stables and looked at the FFA animals.  

Heather came later with her dad and brothers, but sat by us.

Cowgirl Christmas

Christmas is here so Lexi is wearing her Christmas skirts to church.  She picked out her cowgirl one today and paired it with her boots. 

Cowboy Camp

Aunt Katie told us about a cowboy camp that she had signed Ammon & Rachel up for this afternoon.  I had a little bit of work to do, so my mom dropped Lexi and Jordan off at the camp.  I met up with my mom and Katie to walk around the closest town.  I took pictures of the kids when we went to pick them up.  They enjoyed it.  They made a craft, sang songs, learned how to rope cattle, and did a bunch of cowboy things.

Mutton Bustin 2014

This was the night that Lexi has been waiting for since the rodeo last year.  She has continued to say she wanted to do mutton bustin.  This was her last chance since the age limit is 5 - 8 and the weight limit is 60 lbs. We had quite a few friends there to support her.  

Lexi had quite a run.  She was hanging on the side for most of it, as you can see in the video.  

First Graders' Frontier Night

This evening, we went to Lexi's school for Frontier Night. We invited her dad to come along with us.  It is the night where the first graders demonstrate what they've learned about Texas. They were asked to dress in Western wear.  She has been talking about it and practicing the songs for days.  She couldn't wait to show us her PowerPoint presentation, storyboard, artwork, friends, and all the work that went into this.

Trader's Village

My mom and I took the kids to Traders Village today.  It is a huge flea market that I haven't been to in years.  In fact, Jordan was a tiny baby the last time I went.  I have been wanting to get cowboy hats for the kids, which is completely useful in Texas.  Too bad we didn't have them before the rodeos.  I remember buying a cute little pink one from there when Lexi was 2.  The price was great, so I knew we should go again.  We had a fun morning looking at lots of different things from strange swords to junk. Of course, there were lots of Texas items like long horns, boots, belts and the perfect hats.  

Drug-Free Texan

This week Lexi's school celebrated Red Ribbon Week (live drug-free & healthy lives).  Like all things in Texas, it had to have a Texan theme.  That is just how we roll.  The school had big red ribbons tied around every tree, motivational assemblies, and themes for each day.  Sadly, I only managed to take pictures on Thursday & Friday.  Here were the themes:

Monday - I'm too BRIGHT for drugs.  They were asked to wear bright colors, so Lexi wore tie dye.

Tuesday - Stay in the GAME, be drug free. They could wear a team jersey or their school shirt.  

Wednesday - Give drugs the SLIP.  They could wear slippers, but Lexi doesn't have any.

Thursday - Give drugs the BOOT.  It was a western wear day, see the picture above.

Friday - I ELECT to be a drug-free Texan.  This was red, white & blue day.  See last picture below.

Tuesday, Thursday & Friday are common themes around here.  I need to think about getting my kids more western wear, so they can participate fully.  

Katy Rodeo 2012

Howdy Ya’ll! Tonight, we met our friends at the Katy Rodeo. Yes, it was a school night, but kids in our school district got in free if they wore their school spirit shirts. Plus, we never stay until the end. We arrived first and decided to see the 4-H/FAA animals in the barn. Lexi loves animals and Jordan likes the excitement, but is a little nervous to get close to them. For being such a wild and crazy boy, he sure is silly about some things. After going through the barn, we went out to save some great spots in the bleachers for everyone. It didn’t take long for them to arrive and the real fun to begin. It is always better to experience things with friends.

This year, Lexi was a little too old for the stick horse races. She was old enough for the muttin bustin though, but I didn't sign her up in time. She is more convinced than ever that she would be good at it. Hopefully, we'll find out next year. She still had fun hanging out with her friends and even dancing to the loud music.

Fleece PJ Pants

Last week, I saw a tutorial on the internet that explained how to make pajama pants for kids. It looked really easy, so I decided to check out fabric. Coincidentally, they just happened to be advertising fleece fest. The kids and I went in to discover that all fleece was 60% off. I let them pick out what they wanted. They both went with a cowboy theme. I whipped up the pants in no time. Here they are modeling them last night when the temps dipped a little.

This morning, Jordan and Lexi prepared for an amazing adventure. They took everything they needed including their toy laptops in the backpacks. Who could possibly live without those?
