Texas Bluebonnets

The official Texas state flower is the bluebonnet. This wild flower can be found along the highways and anywhere that is seeded. They bloom in the Spring for about a 3 week period. During that short window of time, lots of Texans take the opportunity to get pictures of their family or kids surrounded by these flowers. I must admit that I have never gone out and done it before, but I have always wanted to. This year, I definitely didn’t want to miss the opportunity.

I have always heard that the best place to see them in near Brenham, which is about a 50 minute drive. I planned to take the kids and go after church today. However, during the week, a friend told me that she heard that there are lots of them in a state park about 20 minutes west of our town. As suggested, I decided to go to the Stephen F. Austin State Park. The park actually only had a few bluebonnets at the entrance, but we were not disappointed. We walked on a trail and had lots of fun. I think it would be a great place to go camping. When we finished, we drove out of the park and found plenty of great places for bluebonnet photo opportunities. What a great day!
