Not Feeling Well

Last weekend, Jordan was sick. This weekend it is Lexi's turn. I'm sure she has the same virus that he had. More sitting around for us....

Stomach Bug

Lexi wasn't feeling well. It was her turn to have the stomach bug that has been going around. Jordan is mostly over it. I am so glad we use essential oils. Most of the people around us were suffering terribly for 3 - 5 days. We were able to lessen the symptoms and move past it quickly.   

Came Home Early

I got a call from the school nurse today.  Lexi wasn't feeling well.  I went to get her.  As we were walking out, she told me she puked on her desk while taking a math test.  Her teacher walked her to the nurses office holding a garbage can the entire way.  The stomach flu has been going around.  Fortunately, I saw no signs of illness all day.  

Sick Day

Yesterday, Lexi wasn't feeling very well.  She wanted to stay home, which surprised me since she spent most of last year mad at me because she had to take 1 sick day at the beginning of the year.  At the end of the year, they give out certificates to kids with perfect attendance.  Of course, she didn't get one.  

This time, Lexi was a little warm, but wasn't running a fever (only about 99.1).  I decided to send her to school and figured that I would have to pick her up early.  Texas is pretty strict about the number of days a child can miss, so we generally try to send them.  The day went by without any calls.  When Jordan and I picked her up, she was feeling even worse.  She said her teacher wouldn't let her go to the nurse.  After dinner, she was running a low grade fever.  

Today, she and Jordan got to enjoy a sick day.  They watched movies and chilled out.  About 3 pm, I took her to the doctor.  The doctor was sure she had strep throat, so we got a prescription.  It has been a long time since she has been to the doctor or been on antibiotics.  I also had them give her a flu shot.  

By the way, she weighs 47 lbs, which I think has been her weight for over a year.  She is in the 60th percentile for height & the 40th for weight.        

First Sick Day

Yesterday, Lexi woke up with a scratchy voice. I thought it would be nice for the teacher to spend one day with a quiet Lexi, so I sent her to school. Believe me, the girl can TALK! We've had several notices about it. Plus, Texas only allows 8 missed school days in the whole year. She came home still feeling bad and later that evening started running a fever and even puked up her dinner.

This morning, I called my mom to ask her if she thinks I should take her to the doctor. It had been such a long time since either of my kids were sick that I had to think about needs to be done about it. My mom usually chooses seeing the doctor, especially for sore throats. I called her pediatrician and got in right away. The initial strep test was negative, but they wanted to send another one out just in case. They gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and said if she seems to be getting worse over the weekend I could pick it up on Sunday.

She got to spend the afternoon watching movies and coloring with Jordan. He was happy to have his buddy home for the day.

Halloween Coloring

This morning, Lexi woke up with a horribly stiff neck. Different movements made her cry out in pain. Since I happen to have LOTS of work, I decided it would be a good day to stay in. I printed off a bunch of Halloween clip art so that she could color. Jordan colored a little, but as usual got bored with it and started playing around. By the way, they have red in their hair because I we played with a Halloween Spray.

LONG Weekend

On Friday night, I asked Lexi if her ears were hurting because she seemed to be crying over every little thing. She said yes and proceeded to point to both ears. I knew that this Memorial Day Weekend was going to be a LONG one. I wouldn't say that it was completely torturous for me, but I made sure to call the pediatrician first thing on Tuesday morning. They confirmed it. She was developing an ear infection. The kids are back on antibiotics.

Ear Infection

For the past few days, Lexi has been quite difficult. Little things have made her lash out at us or burst into tears. I had a feeling that she had another ear infection, but she kept saying it didn't hurt. Of course, she finally admitted that it was hurting yesterday (Saturday). Her pediatrician is closed on Saturdays, but Steve & I go to a family clinic that is open for a few hours. We took her there. Her right ear is swollen and red. Her left is just swollen. She also weighs 33 lbs and is 37 inches tall.

Ear Infection

Yesterday, I planned to stay home all day with my sick kids. I asked Lexi several times if her ear was hurting and she said no. Around 2pm right as I was putting Jordan in the tub, she complained that her ear hurt. I called the doctor's office and was told I could "come in right now." I loaded up the car and headed over there quickly. Lexi's right ear is infected (same side as Jordan's).

The doctor prescribed the exact same medicine that Jordan got on Monday. We headed to Super Target again to pick it up. Of course, the same people were behind the counter at the pharmacy. The lady smiled, so I said "We're back again. We live here."

Lexi decided to announce it louder as we were walking away. She practically yelled, "We live here." I had to laugh.

Spider Bite

I mentioned that Lexi had a spider bite (at least some kind of bite). Here is a picture:

Feeling Better

Lexi is feeling better, so it was back to school for her today. She is still a little hoarse, but she just couldn't miss the birthday celebrations for her teacher, Ms. Libia. I even made a card for her to take.

Sad Cries from a Talker

Last night, Lexi started sounding hoarse. I figured that I would probably be keeping her home from school today, but I wanted to wait until morning to decide. This morning, she was clearly worse. She even started crying while she said “I can’t talk!” That was pretty much repeated over and over again all day. What a tough thing for a non-stop talker to have to deal with. The pediatrician confirmed that she has strep throat. Lexi has gotten lots of television time and rest today. Hopefully, the drugs start kicking in and she is much better tomorrow. By the way, she is now 31 lbs.

Sick Girl

Last Saturday evening, Lexi started showing signs of a cold. We had gone to a birthday party for toddler twins and she didn't act quite like her rambunctious self (yes, we were spreading the germs). She also had a little runny nose. Sunday came with a few more signs, but it wasn’t until Monday that she clearly was not feeling well. She had laryngitis and was simply miserable.

Anyone who has been around a toddler knows that this brings a whole new personality, a crabby stubborn one. She has been whining, crying, and demanding things that she doesn’t even want. It has basically been a week that does not make for pleasant blogging. I guess reality shows are popular so I could have presented the interesting situations that way, but I have tried to keep her in a more restful state while I work on organizing and cleaning the house (a.k.a. nesting).

Hopefully, next week I will post pictures that do not include snot and other fun things. For heaven sake, there is the whole Thanksgiving thing to think about.

Just Perfect

I had an office visitor today. Can you guess who it was? Yep - Ms. Lexi Lou in her full glory.

Let me just tell you that she was well enough to be loud and playful at times and extremely cranky at others. I feel like I have been on a roller coaster (a horrible one designed by Satan himself). Being at work with a baby that has an ear ache and 2 teeth coming in could never be a picnic. Besides all of the regular struggles of trying to keep Lexi fairly quiet and get something done, she has brought this to a whole new level of torture. First off, she only slept for 1/2 an hour. What kind of break is that? Second, I had to miss the little Thanksgiving luncheon that a project site had. (Yes, they still got my Green Bean Casserole). I knew taking her would be a problem, so I volunteered to stay & man the phones. Hmm...sit in the offce & answer the crappy phones or go to a luncheon. Ok, so there were only 3 calls (I can't complain about that too much). Third, she wanted to be held a lot. I have a huge deadline coming up the beginning of December that involves design work, which is a two handed task (more so than typing).

Plus, I absolutely CAN'T forget to mention that perfect work days don't involve puke. It shouldn't be all over my pants or the carpet in my office, not to mention Lexi and her pack-n-play. Thank goodness we will be moving to a new location next year, which is a completely separate post. BTW, the puke did not come from being sick or the book. It is a result of jumping around her pack-n-play while trying to eat a gummy treat for babies. I guess I can report that her gagging reflexes are quite good.

Needless to say, the little one is going BACK to the daycare tomorrow. She might be a handful for them, but we have to pay whether she is there or not & tomorrow they'll earn their money for the week. Besides, she can't miss their Thanksgiving party and I NEED to get some things done.

Daddy's Girl

Lexi is on her 8th week of daycare & can you guess how many times she has made it through a full week there? ...the answer is zero. It is always something & usually she is just not feeling well like today. She has been suffering from cold symptoms for a week and a half, so I took her to the doc today. She is suffering from an earache and a cough. Me? I am suffering from sick baby at work. I think mine's worse.

Snot Nose, Skinned Knees, Biting & Coughing

Little Lexi is having a rough time dealing with a lot of different things. Last week, she started off with a little daycare bug and at the end of the week caught whatever her dad had. Saturday night, she sounded like she was trying to cough up a lung. At one point, she was coughing so hard that she threw up all over her dad. On Sunday, she was fussy and miserable, so we took her to Urgent Care. Her chest congestion was so bad that they wanted to do an x-ray to make sure it wasn't pneumonia. It took both of us to hold her down for the x-rays, while she screamed like a banshee. We left with three prescriptions for her. She hates how they taste. Every six hours, I have to force them in her mouth.

On top of that, she is still as close to crawling as a baby can be (daycare jumped the gun). I just wish we had better floors for her to do it on. We have Berber carpet in the bedrooms, which is causing rug burns and hard tile everywhere else. She either has sore little knees or hard crashes.

In addition, I think she is teething again. She started biting everything. Yesterday, she even bit my shoulder (ouch).

She needs a break.
