Powder Puff Race

Lexi had her last Powder Puff Derby this evening. On her 12th birthday, she'll be moving up to "Young Womens." Our home teacher, Brother Johnson, helped her make the car this year. We went to his house last night to put on the wheels and weigh it, so that it would be perfect. She painted it silver and added gold circle and pineapple stickers. She won a few races about was probably about 6th place, but they didn't keep track of more than the top 2.

Twin's Birthday Party

Today, we celebrated Kacy's and Cole's 8th birthday at Pump It Up.  The kids all had a great time and managed to wear themselves out.

Inflatables Day

The weather has been pretty chilly here and I have been fighting a cough, so I decided to rest yesterday.  That made Lexi & Jordan all the more excited to be invited to a fun filled morning at Inflatables with our good friends.  Aunt Melissa is in town, which means the kids are extra thrilled.  I was happy to go to a place where the kids could work out all of their energy while I could just sit on the side, chat with friends, and watch.  We all got exactly what we wanted.

Little Mermaid Play

We had a special event today.  We went downtown to the Miller Outdoor Theater with our friends to watch a production of Disney’s Little Mermaid.  We made sure to get there an hour early so we could sit in the shaded seats.  There are lots of free plays and concerts held there.  This one was quite good.  I think this was the first time that Lexi and Jordan saw a full length play.  I was especially amused that Ursula was a drag queen.  She certainly added flair.  We also loved having a picnic lunch with our friends after the play before heading back to our side of town.

School Festival

Lexi's school festival was tonight.  It is one of the MANY ways that the PTA raises money.  Actually, it is quite ridiculous how much money the PTA thinks they need, but that is a whole other post.  Tonight was about fun too.  We purchased tickets so that the kids could enjoy some of the activities.  I told Lexi and Jordan that they could only pick a few.  Lexi went on a huge inflatable (pictured above) and then had her heart set on the zip line.  One of our neighbors was standing in line for his family and said he'd save us a spot too, which was great since it took half an hour to get to the front.  Riding the zip line ended up being the best part of the evening for Lexi.  She didn't show any signs of fear at any time.

Science Camp

It is Spring Break this week and it has been pretty tough because I am swamped with work. However, we have had fun with friends, especially today. We were invited to Science Camp. Our friends planned and set it all up. We just showed up. Each of the moms was assigned to a science station. The kids were split up into groups. Lexi was part of the 5 & 6 year olds that also included Camden and Kara. They started off making gak (blue rubber). Next, they went outside to test objects floating. Last, they were in my station, which had 4 experiments. We tried to see if tap water was heavier or lighter than salt water. We put shiny pennies into vinegar. We put dirty pennies into lemon juice. We also worked on creating static by combing their hair and touching the comb to tissue paper.

When all the stations were done, the kids gathered around the island to make ice cream. We had a picnic outside and the kids tasted their ice cream. Our grand finale was at the park. It involved household explosives. We had baking powder and vinegar for one. The other one was Diet Coke and Menthos. They were quite interesting combinations.
