Grandma's Home Town

This morning, I decided to take the kids to my mom's home town.  I showed them lots of places including the house my grandmother owned when I was a child, the house my mom grew up in, where my great-aunt lived with her kids, the park where both my mom's generation and my generation played, my grandmother's house where she lived when she passed away, and even my grandfather's grave.

Remembering Grandpa for Veteran's Day

Lexi had an early dismissal day, so she was out a little after noon.  I had decided to take them to the Houston Veteran's Cemetery to see my dad's grave.  We hadn't been since Jordan was about 1 years old (4 years ago).

Outhouse Experience

Yesterday, Lexi got her first experience in an outhouse. Annette's family all gathered at the Benjamin Cemetery to place the headstones for her father, brother, and Aunt, who have all died in the last 2 years. Lexi had to use the potty of course, so we walked over to the building and found that they had a small outhouse. She kept telling me that they didn't have a flusher and asked how it would go down. All I could do was laugh.

Road Trip/Ramah Cemetery

One of the main points of interest on Grandma Margie's travel agenda included a trip to a tiny little speck on the map called Ramah, which is near Gallup, New Mexico. It was her mom's home town and the place where she was burried. This place is loaded with family history for us. It seems strange to call it a town when there isn't even one traffic light in the settlement. The sign above recognizes one of my Grandmother's brothers, Ken Mangum. Her parents and most of her siblings are in the same little desert cemetery with her.

Grandpa Law Day

Three years ago this week, my dad passed away. His funeral was the last time I had been to the cemetery where he was buried. I decided that I would take the kids to show them where their Grandpa Law is. I also brought pictures of the last time I saw him for Lexi to look at. It was a pleasant day and we actually enjoyed being at the Veterans Cemetery.
