2nd Day of 5th Grade

Lexi really wanted a Texas A&M shirt this year. I am sure that part of it is the color. I always liked the color and that school. We live in an area that is very education minded. Adults regularly ask kids which college they want to go to. There aren't other options. Nobody mentions military or anything else. Most kids wear shirts from their favorite universities.

Even though I like A&M, I often tell my kids to just think about BYU. It is 1/3 of the cost and academically ranked much higher. Of course, that means it is tougher to get into to. I guess they'll have to keep getting good grades.

BYU Fans

Lexi and Jordan were really excited about wearing BYU shirts today.  BYU is playing the University of Texas this weekend.  As you can imagine, there are a lot more UT fans here than BYU ones, but everyone is very friendly about it all.  I decided to try a new hairstyle for Lexi.

Hiking to the Y

BYU has a huge Y painted on the mountain near it.  I have been wanting to hike to it for a while and thought it would be a good activity on our vacation.  My brother, Alma, and his kids are staying nearby, so they came with us.  It isn't very far, but it is a steep hike.  On the way down, Alma entertained the kids by telling jokes.

BYU Campus

We went to the BYU campus today.  Both Lexi and Jordan have said that they want to go to school there.  I'm all for it especially since it is cheaper than most other options.  I also bought scriptures for the kids.  I promised Lexi that I would get her one with her name on it when she was baptized.

BYU Cougar Fans In Enemy Territory

Today, the kids randomly decided to wear their BYU Cougar shirts.  I couldn't believe it, especially since BYU just beat the University of Texas in football this weekend.  Football is serious business around here.  Both of them mentioned that their teachers said they had watched the game.  That was about all they said.

BYU Utah

This evening, we parked the RV at one of my friend's house in Spanish Fork.  Before stopping for the night, we drove to Provo to see BYU and eat at one of our favorite restaurants.  We walked around campus.  Grandma Margie & I both talked about the buildings we had classes in and some of the fun times.  It has changed a lot since I was there and definitely a lot since my mom went there.  All of us enjoyed stretching our legs.  One day, the kids want to come back and hike to the Y, which you can see in the upper corner of the picture below.  When we were done at BYU, we ate at Brick Oven.  They have great pizzas; a salad, soup & pasta bar; and apple beer (similar to apple slice).  They also have great root beer, but lots of places have that.
