Lexi and Jordan had science night at school. They had been warned during the day that one of the stations would be dedicated to eating a chocolate covered mealworm. They were both up for the challenge. Here they are eating it in the top picture. Below, they have their stickers on announcing their accomplishment.

Celebrating First Grade Champ
Lexi had a great year. Not only were her grades all in the mid to high A's, but she is officially reading on a 5th grade level. I told her that we would celebrate by going out to dinner. My boss had given me a gift card to Applebee's a while ago and this was the perfect excuse to use it. Yeah Lexi!!!

Last Day of 1st Grade
It is the last day of school and it is only a half day. We are all excited and looking forward to swimming, library time, play dates, and all of that. Jordan and I walked Lexi to school like we usually do.

Second to the last day of 1st Grade
Tomorrow is the last day of school for Lexi. I didn't really plan on taking a picture today until I noticed that she happened to have on the same outfit that she wore on the first day of school. I thought it would be neat to do a post with both pictures.
The picture above with the braid is from today. The picture below with the pig tails is from the first day of school. Looking at the pictures, I see that the biggest difference is that she hasn't been in the sun much lately. Her hair was lighter and she had a tan back in August. She will be back to that soon enough since summer is here. No matter how much sun block I use, she'll look like the below picture soon.
This just reminds me that the year certainly flew by. I'm willing to bet that summer will be over too quickly too.

First Grade Awards
At the end of the year, like most schools, Lexi's elementary school has a classroom gathering with awards. They sang and did a little reading of a play. Lexi got three different awards - Honor Roll, Excellent Reading Skills, and Finishing the First Grade.

Lunch at School
Today, Jordan and I picked up lunch from McDonald's and went to Lexi's school to eat with her. We had a couple of gift cards for McDonald's so it worked out well. Jordan got to see the lunch room again and Lexi got to eat with us.

First Graders' Frontier Night
This evening, we went to Lexi's school for Frontier Night. We invited her dad to come along with us. It is the night
where the first graders demonstrate what they've learned about Texas. They were
asked to dress in Western wear. She has been talking about it and practicing the songs for days. She couldn't wait to show us her PowerPoint presentation, storyboard, artwork, friends, and all the work that went into this.

Valentine Service Project
This week, the first graders at Lexi's elementary school are working on a service project. They are decorating tissue boxes for a nursing home. Yesterday, I went to Hobby Lobby to get foam hearts and such for Lexi to take to school. I saw these cute Valentine socks on sale and decided that she should dress festively while she is creating her masterpiece.

1st Grade Parent Teacher Conference
I went to meet with Lexi's teacher this evening. I took a few photos outside her class. Of course, Lexi is doing amazing. She is on a third grade level and has very good work habits. Her teacher loves having Lexi in her class.
