Valentine Surprise

Lexi surprised Jordan and I with little notes on our doors. She is so thoughtful.

Owl Pillow Craft

Lexi decided that today is the day that she would work on her owl pillow craft. She enjoyed adding the little details on the front of the owl. She happens to love owls, mostly because of Harry Potter movies.  

Candy Poster

Lexi and Jordan got up early this morning and made a candy poster for me.  It was Lexi's idea and she did most of the poster, but she had Jordan help her.

Bracelet Queen

Like most kids, Lexi and Jordan are very interested in the rubber band bracelets.  Her classmates are actually having a contest to see who can wear the most on Monday.  I bought a bag this weekend so that the kids could make their own.  They got right on it.

Sunday Gingerbread House

We went to church this morning.  I needed to go because I started teaching the 8 year olds (turned 9 this year) now.  It was my first Sunday with them.  Since my kids aren't 100% feeling better quite yet, they were actually quiet and calm.  When we got home this afternoon, they both took naps that lasted several hours.  

This evening, I pulled out a gingerbread house kit that we had and let them go to town.  I thought it would do them some good to work together and have fun.  Lexi was in charge of icing and Jordan was in charge of the candy.  There was lots of giggling and planning going on.      

Fortune Teller

Yesterday at the play, our friends had a fortune teller that they had made.  Lexi and Jordan were so fascinated and entertained by it.  When we got home, they couldn’t stop talking about it.  I told them that I use to make them when I was young.  They begged me to make one for each of them.  I really had to think about it to remember the steps.  I managed to pull it off though.  The neighbor kids even came over and each wanted one, so I got lots of practice.  I showed Lexi the steps hoping that from now on she can make them herself.

Turkey Art

This afternoon, when Jordan and I picked Lexi up from school, a little boy from her class came running out first with a strange picture. He was so excited to hand it to his mother, who was standing near me. I saw his picture and had NO idea what it was (modern art?). Lexi came out with the same project and it was easy to see that hers was a turkey. His mom happened to see Lexi's turkey too and commented on how great it was.

I often forget that Lexi is quite artistically talented for her age. I guess the piles of paper filled with coloring and various glued creations that constantly cover my downstairs are really paying off. At least, I know she enjoys tapping into this creative side.

Paper Jack-O-Lanterns

This year is flying by so fast that I hardly realized that we should be getting eager for Halloween. Of course the kids have mentioned costumes, but they do that all year.

This evening, I decided that it was time to do our annual paper jack-o-lanterns. I free-hand cut out the pumpkins and their pieces. Then the kids get to glue them on. Lexi was in a silly mood. She preferred to mimic their faces and add emotion to the event.

Tie-Dye

The tie-dye shirts from the 4th of July turned out great! The kids love them. I just wanted to post a follow-up picture.

Making V-Day Cards

Since I have been really busy lately, I haven't had a chance to help the kids with Valentines. It didn't happen until today, which meant that only Grandma Margie and Aunt Paige got one. Lexi made the one for Paige.

Lexi's Christmas Cards

This year, Lexi wanted to make a few Christmas cards to send out. I made a short list including a her dad, grand-dad, great grandmothers, first cousins, and a few friends. Jordan helped her glue a few of the cards. She wrote names in all of the cards and signed it with a heart and her name.

Thanksgiving Craft

Yesterday, I pulled out a Thanksgiving craft that I had bought for the kids to do. They had so much fun gluing the pieces together. Lexi loved drawing the faces onto her stick people.

Mummy Hot Dogs

We made mummy hot dogs for dinner tonight. Lexi has a talent for wrapping them. She was disappointed when she saw that mine were neater, but I explained that a real mummy is bumpy and messy. She asked if we could make a video. I said sure and didn't know that she wanted to do an instructional one:



Since we've gone that far, I should add that we cut up Pillsbury crescent rolls for the wrapping. I didn't take an after picture, but they turned out well and the kids gobbled them up.

Pumpkin Painting

This year instead of carving pumpkins, I had Lexi & Jordan paint them. I figured that it would not only be less messy, but that they would be able to participate in the activity more.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Lexi has had an entire month devoted to making Thanksgiving artwork at school. From American Indian headbands with feathers, to making various turkeys, to painting a green bean casserole (funny), to this sign/poem & turkeys. She even had two "feasts" at school last week that included chicken nuggets and cheese cubes. School is out this week, so we've been keeping busy at home and running a million errands. Now, she is more than ready to celebrate THANKSGIVING tomorrow with some friends. Hope everyone has a wonderful time.

Halloween Decor

On Tuesday (Lexi's day off from school), I cut a bunch of paper up to make jack-o-lanterns. Lexi glued the faces on for me. Then, we taped them to our window. It was a fun activity that added a little Halloween decor to the house.

Miss Artist
