Thanksgiving 2017

Thanksgiving at Grandma and Papa's house was amazing. The food was delicious and the kids got to help cook. Lexi's apple pie tasted like a regular one with sugar.

Pie Prep for Thanksgiving

We are spending the week at Grandma's for Thanksgiving. We also happen to be dog sitting - Tutti and Lucy, which is always something that Lexi likes.

Riding on Papa's golf cart

Lexi helped Grandma make a sugar-free apple pie today. They used frozen concentrate instead of sugar. It looks delicious.

Basketball Practice

Both of Lexi's coaches were at practice tonight. I snapped a few photos. They really focus on defense, which I think is smart with girls at this age. I like that they explain a lot of things. I think she'll learn a lot this year.

Basketball is Back

Basketball practice started today. She has 2 coaches and husband and wife, who are the parents of one of the girls. We only met the female coach tonight. She told us that both her and her husband played college basketball. She also coached high school and college basketball. This is their passion. I think it will be good.

Lexi is on the Longhorns team. That is going to make it a little weird for me when the games start. Jordan is and Aggie and they were both Aggies last year. I only have Aggies shirts. In fact, I am not a fan of the Longhorns' color (mustardy yellow). I guess I'll stick with my Aggies shirt even though they are rivals. I'll wear a jacket or something and cheer loud.

Funeral for Ms Alice

We attended the funeral for Ms. Alice today. I have been friends with her son, Bill, since high school. Lexi is good friends with his twins, Kacy and Cole. In fact, ever since the hurricane, Kacy and Cole come to our house every afternoon after school. They are staying across town with grandparents until their house is fixed up from the flooding. They come to our house until their parents can pick them up after work.

Their grandma, Alice, went on hospice a few days after they evacuated. She only lasted a few days and then slipped away. They cremated her and waited until family members from around the country could make it to the funeral. It was a lovely tribute. They had people get up and tell memories. Then there was a buffet from Ninfa's. It was nice to catch up with old friends and support Bill and his family.

Astros Win it All

The Astros won the World Series for the first time in their franchise history. I guess that makes it ok that our audiences at the King and I were so small. haha. For the past few days, people have been standing in lines for hours at sports stores to get these coveted t-shirts. I happened to walk into the store at 8 am yesterday morning and they only had the sizes that we needed. Many people were waiting in lines for the next shipment. I counted myself lucky and got these commemorative shirts. The kids were excited to wear them today along with lots of kids whose parents suffered to get theirs.

Halloween Party with School Friends

One of Lexi's friends from school, Jayden, had a Halloween party tonight. She arrived to find out that another girl, that she didn't know, had a very similar Mini Mouse costume on. They played games, ate, and did a little trick-or-treating. I picked her up at 9 pm.

Cast Party

We had two shows today and the cast party tonight. I am pretty sure the kids liked the cast party more than all of the rest of it put together. They made some good friends and had a great experience in theater. I'm quite exhausted from it all, but I am definitely glad we did it.

Opening Night

It was opening night of the King & I. This didn't turn out to be a good weekend for a production because the Astros made it to the World Series and they have games tonight and tomorrow night. The audience was definitely about half of what they expected. We didn't have anyone that we know coming tonight, so I felt like it was just a dress rehearsal. Most of the audience was a group of elderly ladies from a local retirement community. They thoroughly enjoyed it though. It was so fun to hear their laughter and giggles. They even asked about the next production and promised to attend.

Trunk-or-Treat with Camp Journey

For the past few weeks, the play, has taken over our lives. We have missed several of our normal activities. Next week, we have dress rehearsals and the actual play, which means we'll miss out on most of the Halloween things and parties going on. Fortunately, we found out that Camp Journey had their trunk-or-treat tonight. Camp Journey is a special camp for kids with special needs. We have quite a few friends that volunteer and are part of it. Lexi and Jordan are both planning to become volunteers in the future.

Grandma’s Wig

Grandma Margie's hair all fell out this weekend. They said it would about 10 days after her first chemotherapy and they were correct. Here is a picture of her in the wig she bought.

She got really sick last night and had to call her Oncologist. She is supposed to go right to the emergency room if she gets a fever of 101. It his 100.7. The doctor told her to take a Tylenol and go to sleep. He also wanted her to come in for blood work this morning. First, she went to go to the other facility to have a biopsy on her skin and then stopped there. Her white blood cell count is very low, so low that she will not be able to get chemo next week unless it goes up.
