Trunk-or-Treat

This evening, our church had their annual trunk-or-treat.  The kids were very excited of course.  We had sprinkles through-out the day, but it cleared just long enough for this activity to be perfect.  As usual, this starts with potluck chili and cornbread.  We sat by the kids' favorite church friends to eat.

Lexi & Jordan ready to collect candy

Heather & Lexi insisted that they were old enough to walk around the parking lot by themselves this year.  I walked around with Jordan.  I didn't protest too much since I could basically see the girls whole time.  Heather's parents could too.

Halloween Party

Some of our closest friends (Kacy & Cole) had a Halloween Party this evening.  Lexi and Jordan were excited to go and to dress up in their costumes.  They went as members of Steam Powered Giraffe.  Lexi went as a Walter Girl (like Aunt Paige) and Jordan went as The Spine.

The party was really fun.  We ate, socialized, played games, touched slimy body parts, and squirted silly string at each other.  I took a few pictures.

First Report Card for Second Grade

As you can see, Lexi is doing very well in second grade.  Most importantly, she is enjoying it and loves spending time with her friends each day.  Every evening, I hear ALL the details of her day.  She is fun like that.

Hat & Sunglasses Day

Lexi is feeling completely normal, so she went back to school today.  It was hat and glasses day for her class.  She definitely didn't want to miss that.

Came Home Early

I got a call from the school nurse today.  Lexi wasn't feeling well.  I went to get her.  As we were walking out, she told me she puked on her desk while taking a math test.  Her teacher walked her to the nurses office holding a garbage can the entire way.  The stomach flu has been going around.  Fortunately, I saw no signs of illness all day.

Literacy Night

The kids' elementary school held a Literacy Night.  They had a bunch of different stations.  We went to five.  Jordan and Lexi played games on iPads, made bookmarks, wrote stories, made a jersey with the theme of their favorite book, played games, and even played on a smart board.

Primary Program 2013

The children had their annual Primary Program at church today.  Since I teach the 9 year olds, so I was part of it too.  Each child had a chance to say something into the microphone.  They were assigned a speaking part according to their answers on a questionnaire that was handed out.  Lexi said, "We can pray anytime and anywhere in the whole world."  Between the age groups, the children sang primary songs. We were lucky to have good friends that came to watch.

Second Grade Fun Run

I went to the elementary school 5 times today.  In the morning, I dropped the kids off.  Next, I went to read to Jordan's class.  (I read to Lexi's class last week.)  The third time was to watch the kindergartners' fun run.  The fourth time was for the second grade fun run.  This is one of the big the fundraisers for the year.  The kids were supposed to get sponsors. Their t-shirts are marked after each lap.  The goal is 35 laps. Lexi ran almost 45.  I enjoyed cheering for them.  My last trip to the school was to pick the kids up at the end of the day.  I even managed to get quite a bit of work done during my trips home.

First Choir Performance

The kids' choir director decided to use the choir practice as a performance today.  She mentioned that the kids really seem to understand what it is all about once they get on stage.  I didn't have high expectations since they have only had 4 practices, but I enjoyed it.  Lexi's group sang 2 songs.  The recording is a bit shaky because Jordan was sitting on my lap.

Dr Appointment

Lexi had a wellness exam this morning.  She is 55 lbs, which is in the 50th percentile.  She is 50.25", which is in the 60th percentile.  The doctor said that she has a very good BMI.  I had the doctor check out the awful mosquito bites all over her bottom & legs.  This is the first year that Lexi has had horrible reactions to their bites.  I've noticed lots of kids with them.  Jordan has had a few.  The doctor also said she has never had this many patients ask about them before.  Anyway, something crazy is happening here.

Columbus Day at the Park

The kids didn't have school today.  The school district likes to make Columbus Day a teacher prep day so the kids can have it off.  I took Lexi and Jordan to a park in Old Katy.  We walked around the lake and then played.

Rice Harvest Festival

This weekend is the annual Rice Harvest Festival in Katy.  In all the years that I have lived here, I don't think I've ever been before.  This year, Jordan's and Lexi's choir was scheduled to perform at 6pm.  I thought it would be fun to go to the Festival in the afternoon.  We headed that way, but it was raining a little.  I decided that we should hang out in the mall, which is nearby.  We walked around and went to Bass Pro Shop.  That is where we took the picture above.  Lexi and Jordan don't know who the cardboard cutouts are, but they enjoyed taking a picture with them.

When the rain seemed to be clearing, we headed over to the festival.  We took a picture with an old fire truck, walked around looking at booths, ate dinner, and checked out the stage that they would be performing on.  About that time, I got a text saying that choir director was going to cancel because the stage was wet.  We watched a taekwondo troupe perform and noticed quite a few of them slipped and fell.  Lexi and Jordan were a bit disappointed, but we stopped for a funnel cake on the way out and all was good.

Halloween Shirts

There was a slight dip in the temperature here, so I thought it would be a perfect day for the kids to wear their Halloween shirts.  The high was actually 81 today, but this might be as good as it will be for a while.  Lexi's shirt says "Looking Spooktacular."

Bracelet Queen

Like most kids, Lexi and Jordan are very interested in the rubber band bracelets.  Her classmates are actually having a contest to see who can wear the most on Monday.  I bought a bag this weekend so that the kids could make their own.  They got right on it.
