Crazy Sock Day

It was crazy sock day at school today.  Lexi wore her knee-high hot pink heart ones.  I thought she looked cute.

Geography & Physical Science Project

This week, we had to make salt dough to send to school for a project.  We actually made 2 batches.  Lexi has a girl in her class, who misses out on a lot of these things because her parents don't always come through.  We know this because she was in her class last year too.  Lexi didn't want her to get in trouble for it, so we just made extra.  Today, Lexi got to bring home her project.  She was very excited to show us her different land formations.

Sadly, when she got in the car, Jordan threw his coat in and knocked one of the big ones over.  That is why her eyes look a little teary in the picture above.  He didn't mean to do it.  He was upset about something else.  What a fun way to start a Friday night, right?  I helped them calm down and we glued Lexi's mountain back on.

Expanded Playground

Every year, Lexi and Jordan's school does endless fundraisers.  Last year, they were collecting money to add a new section to the playground.  It was finished this week, but the weather wasn't very good and too many kids were climbing on it so they didn't get to play on it during school.  I took them there today and they had a blast.

Swimming with Lauren

This evening, we went to our friends' house to swim and have dinner.  Lexi and Lauren giggled most of the time.  It was a fun evening.

BYU Fans

Lexi and Jordan were really excited about wearing BYU shirts today.  BYU is playing the University of Texas this weekend.  As you can imagine, there are a lot more UT fans here than BYU ones, but everyone is very friendly about it all.  I decided to try a new hairstyle for Lexi.

First Week of 3rd Grade

The first week of school was a success.  Lexi really likes her teachers. None of her best friends are in her homeroom class, but her switch class has one of her best friends.  She also gets to spend time with them at recess.

First Day of 3rd Grade

School started today.  Lexi is now a 3rd grader.  We jumped right back into our routine like no time had passed.  I usually wake the kids up a little before 7 am.  We head down for breakfast.  While they are eating breakfast, I pack their lunches and backpacks.  We then come upstairs and they go to their bedrooms to get dressed.  I have them brush their teeth and I style their hair.  After that, they have to put on their shoes and grab their backpacks.  We walk to school and my part is over, except for the first week.

The school allows parents to walk their kids to their classrooms for the first week.  I do it the whole week despite Lexi's protests that she is mature enough not to need me.  I know she is, but this is fun.  Plus, after the walk in the heat, I enjoy the a/c for a few minutes.  I also like to tease Lexi that if she complains, I'll make sure I look as hideous as possible to embarrass her.  It is good to get this through her head before she becomes a teenager.

Nervous Energy

The kids have been extra nervous about school starting.  It eased up a little when they met their teachers.  I guess it is more of a nervous excitement now.  I decided to let a few things slide today.  This morning, they got the mattress off of Jordan's toddler bed, which is still in his room.  They put it on the stairs and rode it down.  Normally, I'd stop them, but I laughed and took pictures and video.

This afternoon, they took a rocket launcher outside into the field across from our house.  Jordan got this at a birthday party.  They shot it off a few times before I had them go into the house to prepare for bed.

Meet the Teacher

We had "Meet the Teacher" this evening.  Lexi and Jordan were very nervous.  When we got the to school, we went straight to the gym to pick up their school supplies.  The PTA places a big order every spring so that parents don't have to drive around town searching for every last item.  It is actually cheaper too.  We picked it up and went to their classrooms.

We went to Lexi's class first because it was closer.  We were one of the first ones there.  We talked to her teacher quickly and then started sorting supplies.  Lexi and I both liked her teacher right away.  She is probably in her 50s and seems very genuine.  She is the team leader for 3rd grade.  I have a feeling this is going to be a much better year. This year, Lexi will actually only spend 1/2 a day with her teacher.  She'll have a switch teacher for language and social studies.

Matching Toes

Lexi and Jordan went to some friends house today for a few hours.  When I went to pick them up, Heather wanted to come to our house.  Lexi had told her that we were planning to paint their toe nails in matching colors.  My friend, Annette, in Utah gave us the decals.

Pool Time

Since we are back in Texas, we just had to do our normal summer activity.  That is right, we went to the pool.

All That Style

When we got home from church, Lexi put this outfit on.  It proves that she can be quite a character.  She is definitely all that.

Back in Texas

We stayed in  Albuquerque last night.  We have about 12 hours of driving to get home.  I had planned to make another stop, but this morning we talked about it and decided to drive straight through.  As we approached the Welcome to Texas sign, I thought it would be great to get a photo.  Here it is.

Arches National Park

We are heading back home from our vacation.  We spent the last few nights in Spanish Fork and started driving this morning.  Today, I thought it would be a good idea to stop off at Arches National Park.  We got there right about lunch time.  We hiked around for about an hour and got to see several arches.  It was the perfect stop right in the middle of the day.
