This morning we went to Granite
Mountain Memorial Overlook. The memorial is for all the men who have died
in the mining industry in Butte. In the early 1900s, there was a big fire in
the mine and 168 men were killed. The lookout is amazing, besides the scenery,
you can see both sides of the continental divide.
Our second stop this
morning was at the Berkley
Pit. We paid $2 each to see an old copper mine filled with toxic waste.
Kind of an odd concept, right? They told us about how birds that try to sit in
the water die fairly quickly.
