Mother's Morning Out

I had planned to put Lexi in pre-school this year, but it didn't work out. The YMCA is affiliated with a great one. She was going to go 2 days a week from 9:30 am to noon. Unfortunately, on the day we went to sign up, I found out that they decided to increase the price by a lot. I am not worried about her missing out on anything. I mainly wanted her to go because I know she would enjoy it. However, I just can't afford it, so we are doing our own thing. We are doing reading lessons and we go to the YMCA four days a week. They get to play outside with other kids for 2 hours.

I am also going to try to sign them up for different activities. This month, they are doing a mother's morning out program on Fridays. They are supposed to do crafts and gymnastics. Yesterday, they were the only ones there, so the teacher let Lexi run the show and she chose gymnastics the whole time. I am a little disappointed by that, but Lexi is a natural leader and this happens. Next month, we'll try something else. At least they had fun and got a lot of exercise.

Toddler Daybed

One of the best things about kids is that they can get extremely excited about the littlest things. It is quite sad that we lose that ability as we grow up. Today, I worked on the kids' beds. I decided to convert the crib into a toddler daybed for Lexi and give her bed to Jordan. They were both completely thrilled, which is funny because Lexi used to sleep in the crib when she was a baby.

Mr. Kitty

Grandma Margie is the Director of Nursing at a retirement home. She works on the floor where residents stay when their condition is bad enough to need help with a major function in life. One of the residents there had a cat named Mr. Kitty. Whenever we went to visit Grandma, we stopped in to see Mr. Kitty. He is a ragdoll cat, which apparently is a type of cat that has been bred to get rid of the cat personality. Basically, they love attention and do not run away from too much affection.

Mr. Kitty's owner has dementia. Most of the time, she didn't even know that the cat is hers. Her family had mentioned that the cat could be given away. My mom arranged for the staff to take care of it. Unfortunately, the lady had a stroke this week. She suddenly could not recognize her daughter, but she had complete awareness of the cat. She started chasing him around, calling for him, pulling his tail and picking him up by the fur. The poor cat was hiding out in my mom's office and the lady even came looking for him. My mom brought him home for a few days while they found someone to take him. The kids loved having him here, but a guy from Grandma's work wanted him. He came last night. I took pictures of Lexi & Mr. Kitty before he left.

Aquarium of the Pacific

Grandma Margie got tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific through work, so we went today. It is up near LA. We got there about 10am and walked through the aquarium. For lunch, we headed to Bubba Gump Shrimp, which is across the street. We went back to see a little 4D movie and then walked around to a lighthouse.

Aunt Paige's Eyes

Yesterday morning, we went to the YMCA and Aunt Paige headed to an eye appointment. She was inquiring about Lasik. During her appointment, she found out they had a 15% off special running for September, so she wanted to schedule the surgery for that day. She called and asked me if we would drive her back for it. Of course, I agreed. To be honest, I had it done 9.5 years ago and have been telling her and everyone else in my family to do it ever since.

The kids and I took her to the appointment that afternoon. Like most of the lasik centers, the surgeries are performed in a room with big windows so everyone in the waiting room can watch. Lexi and Jordan found it fascinating. However, we watched two before it was Paige's turn and Lexi decided it was a little too gross for her to watch. The big screen with a close-up of Paige's eye was the breaking point. She must not have been too traumatized though, she decided to get the surgery too if she ever needs glasses.

Long Hair

Today, Lexi told me that she wants her hair to grow all the way to her bum before kindergarten. Neither of us knew exactly how long her hair was. I always have her hair up in a braid or bun or something to avoid tangles. After her bath, I decided to comb it out and show her just how long it is. Fortunately for her, she doesn't have to wait until next year to see if she made her goal. Also, she is all set to see Disney's upcoming movie - Tangled (Rapunzel).

Weekend at the Zoo - Sunday

Sunday, we woke up and Lexi said she wanted to go back to the zoo. The San Diego Zoo is so big that you can really only see half of it in a day anyway. Paige came with us because she doesn't work on Sundays.
