Class Photo Day

Today, Lexi had her class photos. I decided to let her show her funky side. I even helped by doing a different hairstyle. I also went to the school to have lunch with her. She had a good day. I hope the picture turns out great.

Black & White Day

Lexi had black & white day at school. She got to pick out her own outfit. I don't really know the point of their dress-up days. I think the point is mainly to get kids excited to go to school. Strangely enough, it works - at least on Lexi.

Her Own Kilt

Grandma Margie made Lexi a kilt. She was so excited to wear it to church today. She LOVES it!

Fun Run

Lexi's school hosted a Fun Run today. Actually, it was supposed to be last month, but it got rained out. It was held at a local junior high. We had to get there a little early because the kindergarteners were going first. One of the P.E. teachers led the kids in a few stretches. Of course, Jordan joined Lexi for that. Then, the kindergarten girls were told to line up at the starting line.

That is when we were all told that they would be running an eighth of a mile, which surprised me. I figured they would do a 50 yard dash. About half way through, I noticed that quite a few of them were struggling. I wished I would have given her pointers at least. Telling her to pace herself and a little bit about breathing would have been good. The kindergarten girls didn't even get to see anyone else do the race before they went. She still had fun, but wasn't too happy that she wasn't the winner. That just made me laugh.

Photos & Fun

This morning, I took photos of the kids before taking Lexi to school. I kind of like having some posed photos. This afternoon, Lexi came home and was emotionally exhausted. She was whining and crying over every little thing (not good). When she asked if we could go to the park, Jordan and I were both ready to jump on that idea. We went to a nearby park and I let them play and play. The fresh air seemed to do them both some good. The weather has been all over the place lately, so we have to take advantage of it when we can. In fact, it started sprinkling as we were heading home.

Sports Story

Every week, Lexi has homework that involves logging into a site and downloading a pdf story. She has to read the story twice and then follow the instructions at the end. It typically has her draw a picture and write a little something somewhat related to the topic. This week, she had to write about sports. I talked to her about some ideas before she got started. We talked about how when she was a baby she got to go to several professional games like the Miami Heat, the Miami Dolphins and the Florida Marlins. She said she wanted to use the Heat. I went off to cook dinner and was surprised by her story and picture. It was a great way to turn it into her own.

Mom & Lex Day

Jordan had a birthday party for a church friend to go to today, so Lexi and I had some alone time. She had been asking if we could get a donut. There happens to be a great one close to the house where the birthday party was. We dropped Jordan off and headed there. After that, we went to pick up my sewing machine. It was being serviced/repaired. Lexi was completely fascinated by the machines and a sewing class that was taking place. She stood at the back of the classroom and intently watched while I looked around and paid for my sewing machine. We asked about classes for her, but they said they like them to be 8 years old at the youngest.

Report Card Feb 2012

Lexi got her 4th report card for Kindergarten. Two more to go and she'll be done. Time is flying quickly. As you can see, she is passing all the requirements. Plus or minus report cards don't indicate very much. Next year, she'll be getting more detailed ones.

Katy Rodeo 2012

Howdy Ya’ll! Tonight, we met our friends at the Katy Rodeo. Yes, it was a school night, but kids in our school district got in free if they wore their school spirit shirts. Plus, we never stay until the end. We arrived first and decided to see the 4-H/FAA animals in the barn. Lexi loves animals and Jordan likes the excitement, but is a little nervous to get close to them. For being such a wild and crazy boy, he sure is silly about some things. After going through the barn, we went out to save some great spots in the bleachers for everyone. It didn’t take long for them to arrive and the real fun to begin. It is always better to experience things with friends.

This year, Lexi was a little too old for the stick horse races. She was old enough for the muttin bustin though, but I didn't sign her up in time. She is more convinced than ever that she would be good at it. Hopefully, we'll find out next year. She still had fun hanging out with her friends and even dancing to the loud music.

President Picnic

Today was a bit of a crazy day. Besides the fact that I have to work and it is a holiday for the kids, a friend asked me to watch his kids. Fortunately, some of my other friends asked us to meet them at a park to play and have a picnic. We got to go there and have fun before coming back to the house for quiet/work time.

Lexi was extra helpful with the little ones today. She stuck close to them and helped them play.

Lucy's Party

This afternoon/evening, we went to Lucy's birthday party. It was in her backyard and their was a bouncy castle for the kids to play in. Both Lexi and Jordan had fun.

Flat Stanley

Lexi and Jordan have a cute little friend in Utah, named Camberly, who is working on a school project along with her 2nd grade class. Her mom sent me an e-mail to see if we would be able to help. Lexi and Jordan were very excited, especially when Flat Stanley came in the mail. We were able to take Flat Stanley around and take pictures of things we wanted him to see in our area. Then, I made a scrapbook page and e-mailed it back to Camberly's mom. Flat Stanley is one lucky traveler.

Backyard Visitors

The neighbor kids like to come over to play in the backyard. They often come through their back gate and into ours. Lexi and Jordan are always excited to have fun. It works out well for me, because I can hear and see what they all are doing while I am in the kitchen and basically anywhere downstairs.

This evening, I heard a bit of additional excitement and running around. I went out to see what was going on and they pointed out a bunny. Somehow, a wild bunny had found its way into our yard. The poor thing got chase around a little and tried so hard to hide. They weren’t trying to hurt it or even catch it, but they did want a closer look. I took a few photos and then had the kids come into the house so he could try to make a proper escape.

Valentines 2012

This year, the kids Valentine's Day started out with a fun surprise from Gram. When they were in the tub last night, she dropped off felt envelopes (full of treats) to tie to their chairs. They were so excited and definitely felt loved. That really set the mood for the day.

Of course, I had them dress in festive attire for school. Lexi was spoiled and got to wear a new dress that Grandma Margie had made for her (and sent with Papa). When Lexi got home from school, she saw that I had left a Valentine message on her bedroom door. We enjoyed sugar cookies from Gram for our dessert tonight.

Little Photographer

I downloaded my pictures and discovered that someone must have been using my camera yesterday. She was sneaky enough to use it and put it right back where it belongs. Of course, she hasn’t mastered the art of hiding the evidence.

Papa's Visit

Papa Malcolm was in town on business this week. Several days before he came, he sent me a text saying he would take us to dinner and the kids could pick the place. Lexi's face lit up when I asked. She immediately said "Chinese Buffet!" Jordan got excited too. Lexi is sure that she loves Chinese food even though she picks American food in the buffet lines.

We had a great visit. The kids were so thrilled to spend time with Papa. They got very nostalgic. They asked lots of questions about Grandma, Paige and Travis. Of course, the gifts sent by Paige and Grandma were a favorite too. We were so sad to see Papa go.
